ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University field hockey team will compete in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) semifinal contest on Wednesday November 2 against Cabrini College at 4:00 PM. Neumann is the No. 3 seed while Cabrini clinched the No. 2 seed.
The two teams met back in September for their regular season match-up. The Cavaliers came away with a 6-2 win.
The Knights have saved the best for last in the CSAC regular season, winning their last three conference games. In a topsy turvy season, the Knights managed to pull out the most important win of the season against Marywood University. Chelsa O'Donnell scored in the 63rd minute to give Neumann the 1-0 lead and eventual win.
The resurgence in the second half of the season can be linked to defensive discipline and timely scoring from Erica Crabtree and Ashley Verbonitz. Crabtree has scored six goals and added four assist in the last four games to lead the charge, while Verbonitz has chipped in four goals. Senior Megan Scott leads the team with 11 defensive saves and she will lead the team with her experience. Lindsey Kasecamp and Sam Kotowski have been splitting time in the goal as both are equal the task for the semi-finals.
This season has marked a challenging non-conference schedule that boasts Ursinus College, Eastern University and TCNJ. These games served as preparatory games for conference play against the likes of Gwynedd -Mercy and Cabrini. As the Knights take pride on defending, they will continue to hang their hat on what they do best.
The winner of this semifinal match will earn a spot in the CSAC Championship game on Saturday, November 5 against the winner of No. 1 Gwynedd-Mercy and No. 4 Immaculata University.
Go Knights!
