GLASSBORO, N.J. – The Neumann University field hockey team fell at Rowan University 10-2 on Saturday afternoon.
The NCAA Division III attendance record was broken with 1,958 fans in attendance.
The NCAA Division III record was 1,010 from the NCAA first round when Massachusetts Institute of Technology had a 2-1 win over Nichols College in Dudley, Mass. (Nov. 11, 2009). Today's total surpassed the Division II mark of 1,243 from the 2009 NCAA semifinal in which UMass Lowell defeated Stone Hill College, 2-1 (Nov. 13). The attendance record for all divisions is 2,381. That mark was set when the University of Maryland won 3-2 against the University of North Carolina in the NCAA final on November 21, 2010 in College Park, Md.
In the game, Rowan put two goals on the board in a two minute span to get an early 2-0 lead. Lindsey Spatola cut the Profs lead in half with a goal in the 21st minute. Rowan finished out the half with three more goals and took a 5-1 lead into the break.
The second half mirrored the first half. After Rowan scored two goals, Megan Shutmate netted the Knights second goal of the game in the 53rd minute. The Profs answered with three more goals for the 10-2 final.
Becca Wallace started the game in net for the Knights and made 11 saves. Nicole Galvin played the final 26 minutes.
Neumann (2-6) heads north to Albright on Monday afternoon for non-conference action beginning at 5:00 PM.
