Women’s Lacrosse Celebrates Seniors with Regular Season Title

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Lacrosse took down Gwynedd Mercy University in an Atlantic East Conference game on Saturday by a final score of 19-4. With the win, the Knights clinch the first regular season championship in program history.
 
Alena Catka led the Neumann effort with five goals and an assist to go with five draw controls. Krista Geibler added three goals and two assists with a team high five ground balls. Rachel Roane contributed two goals, two ground balls, and two draw controls. Brighid Brady was the defensive catalyst with three caused turnovers and four ground balls. Sarah Kiraly and Kortney Kaelin split the game in goal, with each notching a save.
 
Neumann came out of the gate quickly scoring the game's first goal in 22 seconds, out of the stick of Catka. Over the first 15 minutes, the Knights raced ahead to a 10-0 lead. That included woman-down goals by Geibler, Maggie Miller, and Catka.
 
Miley Pascal added her own woman-down goal, 1:15 into the second with Geibler and Catka following. Gwynedd Mercy was able to break into the scoring column with 3:47. They added another just 61 seconds later. B. Brady closed out the first half scoring with a goal with 45 seconds left, making it a 14-2 game.
 
The Griffins scored the first goal of the third quarter, 1:23 in the period but Neumann scored four in a row, including markers by Adriana O'Heron and Tessa Vannello, extended the lead to 15. Only two goals were scored in the fourth with the Knights goal coming out of the stick of Morgan Keely.
 
Neumann (6-8, 4-0 Atlantic East) will close out the regular season on Wednesday afternoon when they visit Immaculata University for a 4:30 PM start.
